3D B-flow sonographic evaluation of stenosis in forearm hemodialysis fistulas

چکیده
Objective: To evaluate the forearm arteriovenous fistula stenosis in hemodialysis patients using 3D B-Flow imaging technique. Methods: GE E8 ultrasound diagnostic unit was used to three dimensionally reconstruct the image of stenosis segments in 45 hemodialysis patients by executing CT angiography (CTA) confirmed forearm fistula stenosis, 3D color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI), 3D power Doppler (PDI) and 3D B-flow imaging (B-Flow), respectively; the diameters of stenosis were measured and compared with the diameters measured by CTA. Results: Stenosis diameter measured by 3D CDFI was 2.1 ± 0.6 mm; by 3D PDI, 2.3 ± 0.5 mm; by 3D B-Flow, 1.7 ± 0.3 mm; by 3D CTA, 1.8 ± 0.5 mm. The stenosis diameter measured by 3D B-Flow differs significantly from those measured by 3D CDFI and 3D PDI, but does not differ much from that measured by CTA. There is an obvious positive correlation between the diameters measured by 3D CDFI, 3D PDI, 3D B-Flow and those measured by 3D CTA respectively. The diameter measured by B-Flow can be best correlated with that measured by CTA. Conclusion: 3D B-Flow is a new way for the evaluation of forearm arteriovenous fistula stenosis in hemodialysis.

SONOGRAPHIC EVALUATION OF AORTOILIAC ATHEROSCLEROSIS IN CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE PATIENTS OLDER THAN 45 YEARS: A CASE-CONTROL STUDY
Background & Aims: Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) encounter many complications and morbidities. One of these major complications is accelerated atherosclerosis which is believed to be multifactorial in CKD and dialysis patients. Ultrasonographic evaluation of arteries has been proposed as an accurate and non-invasive method in assessing the process of atherosclerosis. Atheroscleroti...

OBJECTIVES To analyze the values of flow obtained with an endovascular catheter, and to determine whether they are more reliable than angiographic and clinical findings for planning and for determining the outcome of invasive radiologic treatment of hemodialysis fistulas, as well as to determine the safety of this technique during interventional radiology procedures. MATERIAL AND METHODS We u...
متن کاملComparison of Six-Month Patency Rate in Ulnar-Basilic Fistula and Radio-Cephalic Fistula for Hemodialysis Access
Background and Objectives: There are different types of vascular access. We compared the patency rate for six months in ulnar-basilic fistula and Radio-Cephalic fistula for vascular access in hemodialysis patients. Methods: The study was performed on 60 patients of 50.6±13.5 years of age with end-stage renal failure undergoing hemodialysis from 2012-2014 in Imam Ali hospital in Zahedan. Pat...
متن کاملEndovascular treatment of immature, dysfunctional and thrombosed forearm autogenous ulnar-basilic and radial-basilic fistulas for haemodialysis.
BACKGROUND Forearm basilic fistulas are rarely used as vascular accesses for haemodialysis but they represent a valuable option when autogenous radial-cephalic fistulas cannot be performed. There is no information in the literature to date about the outcome of direct ulnar-basilic or transposed radial-basilic forearm autogenous fistulas after endovascular treatment of stenosis or thrombosis. ...

Sir, We were happy to read that Tordoir et al. [1] concluded that ‘‘an aggressive approach towards early interventional treatment of these non-functional AVFs (arteriovenous fistulas for dialysis) is worthwhile and leads to a considerable salvage rate’’. However, there are three major points of disagreement between the Dutch team and our experience concerning diagnostic, therapeutic and strateg...
